Bury CE Primary School Triptych

Bury Primary School commissioned an artist to create a lasting piece of work in celebration of the extension and building of new classrooms, foyer and offices.
Derek Massey was the artist in residence; as a qualified teacher and professional artist he used his skills to include all levels of ability. The residency also provided opportunities for staff professional development in creative work through Inset.
Pupils investigated the theme ‘Creation’ and each produced a picture to be framed and exhibited for sale in order to raise funds for the main work, the Triptych. Artist Derek Massey worked with the reception class and classes in the lower school during the first part of the week on the first of the three panels using trees and foliage, and then created with Key Years 3 & 4 a panel which depicted Day & Night. The third panel, created by Years 5 & 6 used images of fish and birds.
The three panels formed a Triptych of the Creation. The project was sponsored by Windsor & Newton who donated the materials.
