Our team of Children's Librarians includes Early Years specialists and a Bookstart Co-ordinator. We work with a variety of partners, including Schools, Children's Centres, Early Years Providers and Health Professionals, to promote the benefits of family reading and learning and library membership.
We have compiled an Early years offer to providers (96Kb) which sets out the range of services that Cambridgeshire Libraries offer. These include:
- Distribution of Bookstart gifts across Cambridgeshire
- Group visits. You are welcome to bring groups of children to visit your local library. Please contact the library concerned to make the arrangements
- Library Service for Early Years Groups and Childminders which offers the privilege of being able to borrow up to 25 books, for a term at a time
- Storysacks available for loan to use with groups of children. Each one typically contains a picture book, non-fiction book, CD or audio-cassette, prompt cards and props or toys to act out the story
For a list of available storysacks, or to borrow any, please contact our Children's Services Manager richard.young@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
We have also compiled a Core offer to schools (200Kb) which sets out the range of services offered across the county. These include:
- Book exchange/study visits lead by teachers
- ‘Read It Again!’, the annual Cambridgeshire Libraries Picture Book Award for new author/illustrators, where only Cambridgeshire schoolchildren's votes count!
- School visits. Library staff lead visits, one class at a time, when children are offered the opportunity to become library members and to borrow a book of their choice to take home
We can also offer advice and training on new children's books; school library maintenance; stock purchase; using authors and illustrators in school and planning Book Weeks and special events. Library Stationery Products for Schools.pdf (21Kb) are also available through Cambridgeshire Libraries. There is a charge for these services and products.
