Books on Prescription (BOP)

The Books on Prescription scheme is a collaboration between Cambridgeshire Libraries, the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust, NHS Cambridgeshire and local medical practices.

This is a community health initiative where participating GPs and other health professionals can ‘prescribe’ their patients information about recommended self-help books.

All libraries have popular titles in this scheme which are free for anyone to borrow, even if you don't have a prescription form.

Full collections are available at:

These titles can be reserved and sent to the library of your choice.

Download the Guide to BOP scheme for users.pdf and the Guide to BOP scheme for prescribers.pdf to find the answers to the following questions:

  • What is meant by books on prescription?
  • What health problems are covered?
  • Who chooses the books?
  • Will it work for me?
  • How do I get the book from the library?
  • How do I find more information about the scheme?
