The Big Pink Read

This year’s ‘Big Pink Read’, in celebration of LGBT History Month, takes place on Saturday 11 February from 2pm–5pm on the third floor of Central Library, Cambridge.

At 2pm we have a panel discussion entitled ‘Coincidence or controversy? LGBT writers sidelined from this year’s Booker Prize’ featuring the author and comedienne VG Lee, Steve Joy of the University of Cambridge and Dr Pauline Palmer, author of ‘The Queer Uncanny’. This will be followed by a chance to chat to the guests over a cup of tea and to browse the library’s collection of LGBT books.

Then at 4pm we will be showing a series of clips relevant to LGBT History Month from the BFI collection "Beautiful Things". This is a collection of over 100 films and television programmes that chronicle and explore queer representation and identities over the last century, a large number of which have been unavailable since their first release or broadcast. "Beautiful Things" is available to browse at Central Library during normal opening hours, or at any of the other BFI Mediatheques across the UK.

This is a free event. For more information please email Brenda Mead at brenda.mead@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
