I keep getting error messages. Why am I unable to access this service from home?
If you cannot access one of our online resources please ensure that:
- you have only typed in the first 14 characters on your library barcode. If your barcode is longer, please ignore the extra digits
- you have typed spaces in your library barcode. The barcode should be typed in without spaces
- you have turned off all internet security packages on your machine (such as Norton). Security can be re-enabled once your details have been validated and you have accessed the site
How can I improve the quality of print-outs from The Times Digital Archive?
Article:
Page:
shows a scanned version of the entire page with the terms highlighted, and the article outlined in red (however, it prints just the article).
Adobe Acrobat:
Printing Tips:
Only use the print buttons provided within the database - we recommend that you do not use the browser print button.
Article and Page will only print the cited article, Adobe Acrobat will print the entire page.
Article and Page will print out the article on a single page of paper. If the article is long or spans many columns then this will effect the print size. Long articles may also be rotated so that the size of the print-out will be maximised.
Changing the size of the article you are viewing on screen will not change the printed size. Choose 'Article' and then to change the print size choose "E-Mail or Retrieval" on the left, and choose 2 1/2 landscape (which prints two pages horizontally), or 4 1/4 portrait (which prints four pages vertically). Pages will open in Adobe Acrobat as a PDF file.
In Adobe Acrobat (1 page format) use the graphic select tool located on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar to select an area, then choose print. Make sure that, in the print range section "graphic" is selected. Use this option to get the largest printed version. The printer will automatically determine, from the area you have set, whether to print in portrait or landscape.
Please note that you can only select a single area. The larger the area, the smaller the final print-out will be, since it will 'shrink to fit' one piece of paper.
I live outside Cambridgeshire (or an adjoining county). Can I join the library to gain access to the online resources?
Yes.
However, if you live or work outside Cambridgeshire or the adjoining counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Peterborough, Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire or Northamptonshire, you will need to visit one of our libraries to join in person, and your membership will be time-limited to the length of your stay.
If you are a member of a library in another area, your library card will be accepted as adequate proof of identity.
The terms of our agreements with the publishers of our online resources mean that we are unable to make exceptions to this rule.
Can anyone show me how to use the online resources?
Yes, we can offer a short demo session to a group or on 1:1 basis, to anyone who wants to know how to use our online resources. This is free to all library members
To book a session e-mail your.library@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or call 0345 045 5225
