Reference books can only be used in the library building
All libraries have a core collection, which may include
- one volume encyclopedia
- Whitaker’s Almanac
- dictionary
- local maps
- UK road atlas
- World atlas
- Local phone books
Central Library, Cambridge holds the main reference stock for the county with:
- Quick reference: frequently used books such as telephone and business directories, yearbooks, professional registers and street maps.
- Main reference: standard reference titles across all subject areas with study material up to and including first-year undergraduate level. Books are shelved alongside the adult non-fiction collection. Housed on the Second Floor with the exception of English and Foreign Literature (First floor) and Arts, Music and Sports (Third Floor).
- Reserve store: older materials, including past editions of annual works. Available on request.
Hub libraries (Huntingdon, St Ives, St Neots, March, Wisbech and Ely) have collections which are suitable for research, with study material up to and including A- level. Books are shelved alongside the adult non-fiction.
