Home energy meters in libraries

You can now help to reduce the amount of energy you use in your home by borrowing an energy meter from the library free of charge.

Home energy meters, which measure household electricity use and help to encourage energy efficient behaviour, are available for loan from any Cambridgeshire library

The loan period for energy meters is two weeks (except for Fulbourn), and customers can place a hold on one. Find them on the library catalogue by searching 'OWL wireless energy monitor'.  Borrowing charges do not apply to these items.

The monitors are easy and safe to use and provide information about your household electricity use. They can help to encourage efficient behaviour by highlighting energy-intensive appliances and the amount of electricity being used in real time. Where energy meters have been used elsewhere in the UK, householders have typically saved between five and fifteen per cent of their annual electricity bill.

A home energy guide, providing hints and tips on how to avoid wasting energy in the home, has been produced to use in conjunction with the energy meters.
