Requesting library item

Requesting/reserving books and other library items

If you are unable to find the specific book or other item you want on the shelves, you may request it. Requests can also be placed from home via our online catalogue. We aim to supply 80% of all requests within 4-6 weeks.

All items in our stock can be requested for free. However, any items requested from other library authorities (via our inter-library loan service) will cost £5 per item

How can I place a request?

There are several ways to place a request:

  • online from our Library Catalogue
  • by calling our contact centre on 0345 045 5225
  • by asking a member of staff in any of our libraries

You can arrange to have your request sent to any local branch or mobile library stop.

Occasionally, items shown on the catalogue will not be available for request.  The main reasons for this are that the material is for reference use only, is part of a special collection such as the Postal Tape Service or is lost or damaged.

How will I know when my request is available?

We will notify you by email when your request is available for collection. If we do not have details of your email address you can submit it here.

Customers without email can call our Contact Centre on 0345 045 5225 to check the progress of their request.

What if an item is not listed in the Library Catalogue?

See Not in stock in Cambridgeshire for information on how to suggest books for purchase and use the inter-library loan service.
