The death and funeral of Oliver Cromwell (exhibition)
2008 marks the 350th anniversary of the death of Oliver Cromwell on the 3rd September 1658.
When he died he was the Lord Protector, the head of a British Republic. The ceremonial proceedings after his death were closely modeled on those for King James 1st, over thirty years earlier. The exhibition will look at what did happen, and how closely Cromwell resembled a monarch after his death, and without his knowledge!
