Giving an object to a Museum

Museums, of all sizes, have to a significant extent built their collections on the generosity of donors over many years. If you have an object that you believe might be of interest to a museum please consider carefully which museum might be most appropriate for it. All museums have policies that guide what they can and cannot collect, and may for very good reasons be unable to accept the an offer made to them.

What museums may ask when you contact them with an offer is what is the condition of the object, what do you know of its history, what size is it and do you own it.

If you require guidance and advice on which might be the most appropriate museum please do ask the Museums Office for advice.
