Visiting Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire is a county of contrasts, with a variety of enticing things to see and do and places to visit. Towns and cities are steeped in history, and have evolved over centuries.

  • Cambridge is a university city of old streets, ancient colleges and lovely bridges spanning the River Cam
  • Ely has a magnificent Norman cathedral
  • Huntingdon was the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell
  • Wisbech, in the Fens, has fine examples of Georgian Street architecture.

Throughout the county there is an abundance of historic houses, each with beautiful gardens.

Cambridgeshire's unspoilt countryside is ripe for exploring. The peat-black Fens reclaimed from their natural marsh state are criss-crossed by rivers and drainage channels.

The county tourism website Visit Cambridge & Beyond has further information on places to vist and where to stay.
