Specific flood guidance to help you during a flood or if evacuation is required because of flooding.
- continue to listen to local radio
- keep dry and out of flood water
- stay in your property, if safe to do so or as advised by the emergency services
- do not drive through flood water
- do not walk in flood water or on river banks, sea defences or cross bridges over torrential rivers
- avoid contact with flood water and wash hands before handling food or attending to wounds
- do not allow children to play around high water, drians or any flooded areas
Should evacuation become necessary:
- stay calm and do not panic
- emergency services and other officials will try and visit all properties at risk to advise on evacuation
- if road conditions permit, move vehicles to unaffected areas
- you will hear about your evacuation point for transport and the location of rest centres verbally or via a leaflet
- try to check on elderly/vulnerable family members or neighbours and ensure they know about the evacuation
- try and inform family or friends of where you are being evacuated to
- listen to the advice of emergency services/local council and follow any instructions to leave a property
- disconnect all electrical appliances
