Weather conditions in the UK alters dramatically throughout the seasons and often catch people unaware and unprepared. Snow, fog, ice, gales and heat are all conditions that can cause disruptions to essential services, power failures, and the closure of schools.
Extreme weather can also be hazardous to people’s well being, particularly vulnerable members of the public such as the elderly.
As we will never be able to control the weather we need to seek to manage the risk through better early warning, improved defences, and enhanced education and awareness.
