Nomad, the former National Project for Mobile Working, owned by Cambridgeshire County Council, is dedicated to the promotion of mobile working throughout local government. Nomad is a valuable advisory body, freely accessible to all local authority staff looking to gain efficiencies within their business processes and service areas, through the Nomad website (www.projectnomad.org.uk).

Nomad was started in November 2003 as one of 22 National Projects initiated by the ODPM. The purpose of National Projects was to prevent the 're-invention of the wheel' - and Nomad has succeeded in sharing knowledge, not only about mobile technology advancements but the considerations required to successfully implement a mobile working operation on a small to large scale. Project Nomad's body of knowledge includes valuable research materials including over 30 detailed case studies, and a multitude of guidance materials regarding the overarching organisational change issues facing local authorities going mobile.
