Provision for those who were born outside the UK

If the enquiry relates to unaccompanied asylum seeking children contact Cambridgeshire Direct Contact Centre on Telephone:

Further information is available from the Refugee Council's Website: http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/

Families originating from outside the UK may have their passports marked that they have "no access to public funds".  This means they cannot apply for financial assistance (State benefits).  If family members require social care assistance it is then for the Local Authority to decide if individuals meet the eligibility criteria for services.  If they do meet our criteria the relevant social care team will take responsibility for meeting that individual's needs.  Thus if children are in need they will be provided with support, and immediate and necessary support is provided for adults, as if they were entitled to UK State Benefits.

The Cambridge Refugee Support Group (CRSG) can be contacted on 01223 575489.  An appointment may be made to see an Immigration Adviser from the Immigration Advisory Service.  Immigration matters are dealt with on a Thursday.  The person just needs to call, give a name and contact details and a description of what prompted the call.

The Cambridge Indepdendent Advisory Service (CIAC) welcome calls from people on 01223 712222 from Monday to Thursday 10am - 1pm and can answer questions regarding immigration matters.
