Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

How do I find my Birth Family?

Answer:

If you are an adopted adult living in Cambridgeshire and want information from your birth records or to discuss finding your birth family, you can contact the agency who arranged your adoption or ring Cambridgeshire's Duty Fostering and Adoption worker on

        0800 052 0078.

Cambridgeshire provides intermediary services to assist with contacting birth relatives.

If your adoption was not arranged by Cambridgeshire County Council and you do not know which agency was involved, you need to contact:

The Registrar General
Smedley Hydro
Trafalgar Road
Southport
Merseyside
PR8 2HH

explaining that you are an adopted person wanting access to your birth records.

The British Association for Adoption and Fostering have set up a new "adoption reunion" website giving information for those trying to trace birth relatives http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk
