Why is the Office of Children and Young People involved in the granting of licenses for gambling?
The Gambling Act 2005 requires that all applications for licences to to gamble be reviewed by Responsible Authorities, of which the County Council, as Social Care Services Authority, is one.
We then have to look at the applications from our perspective as the body responsible for protecting children from harm.
Thus all licensing applications will come to the Department's Designated Officer. The Designated Officer will review and make representation where it is felt necessary (or when allowed).
Any concerns about the operations of premises in Cambridgeshire should be reported to the local licensing authorities listed in the Information document or to the Designated Officer via the email link listed to the right.
Safeguarding Children The Gambling Act 2005
For the purposes of the The Gambling Act 2005, Cambridgeshire County Council's Office of Children and Young People's Services is the Designated Responsible Authority for Safeguarding Children.
Until further notice all applicants should send their applications to:
Peter Wilson, Designated Officer - at the contact address shown on the right.
