Information and Services for people with disabilities

Any person with a disability - physical or sensory -who has social care needs is entitled to have those needs assessed.  Depending on the outcome of the assessment you may be entitled to services.  If you have a learning disability you may request an assessment of your health needs as well as your social care needs see "First Steps in getting help for someone with a learning disability" (link located on the right hand of the screen).

Social care needs are:

  • personal care: help with getting into and out of bed, bathing, washing, dressing, cooking, going to the toilet;
  • mobility: getting up and down stairs, moving round the house, getting out of the house (perhaps to the shops);
  • social isolation and loneliness;

If you want your needs assessed just call the Cambridgeshire Direct Contact Centre on 0845 045 5205 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday.

For independent advice giving organisations contact - Disability Cambridgeshire and Disability Information Service for Huntingdonshire (DISH) - links to their websites are on the right of this page.   Disability Cambridgeshire and DISH will advise on a wide range of issues relating to disabilities whether or not you receive services from us.
