This grant helps to provide any adaptation you may need including:

• A ramp to enable you to get your wheelchair in and out of the house;
• to install a shower instead of a bath if you cannot now manage to get in and out of the bath easily;
• A downstairs bathroom (if your house is suitable for this adaptation);
• A stair lift if you are having trouble getting up and down stairs

You will need to be assessed by an occupational therapist who will discuss with you the adaptations you need.

Grants available:

Home improvement agencies, within district Councils, are responsible for administering the grant process and will carry out a means test to determine whether or not you are eligible for a grant.

With effect from December 2005, there is no means test for adaptations for children.

Grant Limit

The disabled facilities grant has a maximum limit of £25,000.  If your adaptations cost more than this or if you do not qualify for a disabled facilities grant you may still be able to get assistance from your local council
