Services for people with a visual impairment
People with significant loss may be:
- blind, with little or no vision
- partially sighted, with some residual vision
If you have difficulties coping with sight loss, or have been registerd either blind, partially sighted, we can help you find out what services or equipment may assist you to remain independent.
Benefits of being registered as sight impaired:
If sight loss is beginning to cause problems in everyday life it may be helpful to consider registering as sight impaired. To register you should contact your GP who may make a referral to the Opthalmic Department of a hospital. The consultant can discuss the possibility of registration.
If you are eligible for registration, the hospital will send a form to the Sensory Services Team saying that you can be registered either as sight impaired or severely sight impaired (blind).
Once registered you will then be offered an assessment of needs by our Sensory Services Team.
You must meet our eligibility criteria to be able to have services from us.
Even if you are not registered sight impaired or severely sight impaired if you have difficulties arising from your sight problems we can help.
