What is Deaf/Blindness?
Deaf-Blindness is a dual loss of sight and hearing and people experiencing this impairment face severe difficulties. People may be born with this condition, it may develop through teenage years or may develop as a person gets older.
Levels of sensory loss vary from person to person and will range from mild, to profound. Identifying individual needs is crucial in ensuring that this very specific impairment is recognised.
The services which are required may be significantly different from those associated with people with single sensory loss.
Assessment may be from a sensory services worker or from a specialist agency. The assessment can identify a wide range of needs and say what Sensory Services Team can provide to help.
