What sorts of services and assistance for someone with a visual impairment might be available?

Answer:

Depending on the outcome of the assessment we may be able to provide assistance with:

  • benefit and entitlement applications
  • independent living skills
  • mobility training
  • communication (reading writing and telephone)
  • Braille and Moon
  • access to libraries of recorded books
  • CCTV and TV readers
  • advice on Low Vision equipment
  • referral to other agencies where appropriate
  • support and advice to families of children with little or no sight.


In the south of the County, the Camsight Resource Centre offers a display of equipment for demonstration, purchase or loan - contact them on 01223 420033.

In the north of the County you may wish to contact either of two voluntary societies which can offer advice and support: 

  • Huntingdon Society for the Blind (phone 01480 453 438 based in Huntingdon) or
  • Fenvision Isle of Ely Society for the Blind (phone 01354 656 726 based in March)
