Greater choice and control over your life.
Direct Payments are cash payments made by the County Council instead of providing care services, to individuals who have been assessed as needing care services.
Learning Disability Partnership service users are encouraged to live as independently as possible. Using the Direct Payments scheme is one way for people with learning disabilities to have more control over their lives.
To receive Direct Payments you must:
- be either over 18, or a disabled child over 16, or the parent/carer of a disabled child
- meet our "eligibility criteria"
- be willing and able to use the money to buy services (with help if necessary)
If you would like to find out more about Direct Payments, we have an arrangement with a group called Cambs Direct Payments Support Service (Cambs DPSS) to advise people interested in taking up Direct Payments. You can contact cambs DPSS on:
Tel: 01245 392328
Cambs DPSS will then visit you to talk things through.
You can ask for a copy of the leaflet about Direct Payments which has been written to be easy to understand.
You can also ask for a copy of the Direct Payments User Guide. This booklet contains a lot more information about Direct Payments.
If you like the idea, start having Direct Payments and then things don't work out, you can stop having Direct Payments anytime you want to. We will then arrange for other services to be put in to meet your needs. A month's notice will usually be needed so that these alternative arrangements can be set up.
