Health issues for people with learning disability
The Learning Disability Partnership teams provide specialist health services for people with learning disabilites.
Services offered include Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. The Team also supports people in accessing health services like dentists.
We think it is important to:
- help people to get better health care
- help Health workers know more about people with learning disabilites
- enable people to have a "Health Action Plan" and a named Health worker if they need one
- improve social care staff's knowledge about where to access health input by providing them with training and information
- ensure people with mental health needs or challenging behaviour are supported
- ensure people with learning disabilities who receive hospital care have adequate personal support.
Our booklet on "Health Action Plans" gives more information.
