What are Primary Care Trusts?
A short explanation of Primary Care Trusts
Primary Care Trusts are responsible for the management and planning of primary health care services in their area ("primary care" services are basically those provided by GPs, District Nurses and Health Visitors).
In Cambridgeshire, from 1 October 2006, there is one Primary Care Trust responsible for primary care, for delivery of social care services for older people, and for Occupational Therapy.
The Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust also commissions health care services which they do not deliver themselves, ensuring co-operation and joint working with other agencies in the area.
The Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust replaces:
- East Cambridgeshire & Fenland Primary Care Trust
- Huntingdonshire Primary Care Trust
- Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire PCT
