How to organise residential care

When, for whatever reason, it is no longer appropriate for someone to stay in their own home, and the person themself agrees, it may be time to arrange residential care for them.

Residential care for older people can be arranged independently by anyone who can afford to pay the fees of the home.

Lists of homes can be obtained from the Commission for Social Care Inspection local office on 01223 771350 - or visit their website (www.csci.gov.uk) and search their Services Directory.

However Residential Care Home fees are expensive and many people cannot afford them.

If that is the case then we may be able to assist.

Our processes for Accessing social care for adults are explained separately.

Our leaflet "Information for people going into Residential Care" explains this in more detail.

The rules around paying for care are complex and you are advised to get independent advice.

Nursing Homes are usually appropriate only for people who are very frail and need care from qualified nurses.
