Between September and November 2008, Cambridgeshire County Council undertook a two-month consultation on Self-Directed Support. This asked the views of service users, their families and carers. The thoughts of members of the public, voluntary organisations, and the social care workforce were also welcomed.
The consultation reached a good spread of people across a variety of settings countywide. Eighty-three organisations were approached and 40 presentations were made to service users, carers and representatives of the social care workforce - resulting in direct engagement with over 1,000 people.
Where it was not possible to organise a visit, copies of the consultation document were sent to meeting and event organisers to distribute. In total, nearly 2,000 copies of the consultation document were circulated and the consultation page on the Council's website received just under 1,000 hits.
The consultation documents that were returned generally welcomed the introduction of Self-Directed Support and the wider range of experiences that a Personal Budget would afford.
