Looking after and using your concessionary travel pass

Do

  • If you get on the bus with a friend or partner who also has a pass, both of your passes will need to be touched-in separately
  • Have your pass, wallet or purse ready before you get on the bus to make boarding quicker
  • If it has your bus pass inside, put your wallet or purse on/against the reader. In most cases, the pass will work without the need for it to be removed
  • Wait for the green light before taking your pass off the reader. It only takes a few seconds. Don’t forget to wait for a ticket to be printed if the machine prints one
  • Keep your pass flat and avoid getting it wet or damaging the edges
  • The bus pass has an aerial running along the edge on the inside that transmits the information from the chip to the card reader on the buses. Please note that if the edge of the card becomes cracked or broken the card will no longer read. There is a charge to replace damaged cards

Please do not

  • Keep more than one pass in your holder, wallet or purse as this may stop the reader from working
  • Get on the bus without putting your pass on the reader - and where required taking your ticket
  • Let anyone else use or copy your pass as it is for your use only. You could lose your free travel privilege if the card is found to be misused
  • Trim, crack, cut or make holes in your pass. This damages it so that it cannot be read by the machine and you will need to pay for a new pass
