What does my concessionary pass get me?

The National Concessionary Travel Scheme allows those who are eligible to travel free of charge on off-peak local bus services anywhere in England.

Off peak

Your bus pass can only be used to during the following times:

• Monday to Friday after 9.30 am

• Saturday and Sunday any time

• Bank holidays any time

Local bus services

Your bus pass can only be used to travel on local bus services in England. In a few instances these may include some longer bus and coach services where part of the route is registered as a local bus service. For example the X5 Cambridge to Oxford including Bedford and Milton Keynes. In Cambridgeshire you can also use your bus pass on the Cambridge Park & Ride services after 9.30am.

Additional local benefits

Local authorities are able offer additional benefits to their scheme if their funding permits. However as a general rule, local authorities will only provide additional services for their own residents travelling in their own area.

Cambridgeshire residents are given the following additional benefits:

Dial-a-Ride

Concessionary bus passes can also be used to provide half fare travel on certain Dial-a-Ride services operating in Cambridgeshire. Some other local benefits may also apply. Please ask your local Community Transport scheme for further information

Sight Impaired and severely sight impaired people

Sight impaired and severely sight impaired people may use their pass to travel for free on local bus services before 9:30 a.m in Cambridgeshire

Isolated settlements

Where the only bus serving a settlement departs prior to 9:30 a.m, an exception may be made to allow bus pass holders to travel for free before 9:30. Please check with the bus operator or the County Council first. (Exception List post April 17 2011.pdf (22Kb) )

Please remember: To receive a concession on your fare you must show your bus pass to the driver of every bus you use. Otherwise you may be charged for the journey.
