Why do we need a Guided Busway?
Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing counties in the country. In order to keep up with this growth thousands of new houses are being built. We have to make sure that the infrastructure of the county (roads, rail, schools, leisure facilities) is ready to support all of the extra people who will be moving into these new houses.
The Guided Busway is a key part of this infrastructure. It will allow thousands of people to get to work and leisure facilities from all over the county. For the people who will live in Cambridgeshire's new town - Northstowe, the Guided Busway will provide a high quality, reliable and frequent public transport link.
Without the Guided Bus the future residents of Northstowe and people from the surrounding areas would face increasing difficulties on already overcrowded roads.
By 2018 we estimate that almost 20,000 journeys a day will be made on the system.
Cambridgeshire Horizons will lead the collaboration required to radically increase the scale and pace of housing delivery in 3 phases and bring forward necessary infrastructure delivery.
