There will be three phases of work when the road is restricted to one lane for all traffic. Temporary traffic lights will control the traffic on the bridge.
This will only happen in off-peak periods (9.30 am to 4 pm and after 6pm) but one footpath will also have to be closed during the same times.
These restrictions have to be put in place to allow deep piles (19 metres) to be drilled into the bridge safely.
The equipment that is needed for this work is very large and safety is of paramount importance.
We are very sorry for the additional inconvenience this work will cause. We have asked our contractor to work weekends and later into the evenings to get this finished as quickly as possible.
- The first phase of piling is likely to take up to 10 days from 23 June.
- The second phase of piling is likely to take place in July.
- And the third phase of piling is planned for early in 2009.
