A ransom strip is a piece of land between a property and the public highway that is not owned by either the property owner or the highway authority.
It is land that you may not have the right to use, but which the owner of the property may need to cross to access thier own land. In some instances, the owner of the ransom strip may charge a fee to cross.
Ransom strips are rare and no details of third party ownership are kept by Cambridgeshire County Council.
