Faults

The County Council currently maintains 327 traffic light installations including 131 junctions.

The County Council operates and maintains an Urban Traffic Control System connected to 186 traffic lights mostly in Cambridge but also around Huntingdon ring road. This system controls the flow of traffic and also monitors the lights for faults.

In addition, a remote monitoring system enables on line monitoring and automatic fault reporting on 81 other traffic lights in the County.

In the County the response time for emergency faults is 2 hours, with a full repair within 4 hours. Emergency faults include lights all out, damaged equipment or red lamps out. Other lamps faults should be repaired within 24 hours. All other faults, including flashing interactive signs should be repaired within 3 days. Some fault repairs require specialist equipment, cable repair or traffic management; these may take longer to resolve.

Where there is a problem with the electricity supply EDF aims to attend to the fault within three hours.. The time to restore the supply will depend on the amount of work involved.
