Which type of event needs permission to go ahead and how much notice do I need to give?

These are some examples of events:

  • Cycle races
  • Time trials
  • Demonstrations
  • Marches
  • Street parties
  • Fun runs and races

All road closures require a minimum of 28 days’ notice, with some authorities requiring up to 2 months to process these applications.

  • Demonstrations / marches require a minimum of 7 days’ notification to Police - this must be done by completing an application form that is available from police stations.
  • Notification of cycle races and time trials must reach the HQ Joint Resource Team of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, giving at least 28 days’ notice.

Charges may be made for police services that are identified as necessary to facilitate these events. This may mean signing up to a “Memorandum of Understanding” between the Police Force and event organisers.
