Addenbrooke's access road

Works to build a new access-only road from Hauxton Road in Trumpington to Addenbrooke's Hospital are underway.

Trumpington Village and the Long Road/Hills Road area in Cambridge are already overloaded in peak hours and traffic flows will increase with developments that are proposed for the area.

The aim of the new road is to make it easier for patients and staff to get to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and to help cater for traffic generated by three proposed developments.

The road is planned to be in place before any developments start.

These developments are:

  • A residential development at Glebe Farm.
  • A residential development on the Clay Farm/Showground site.
  • An extension to the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site.

It is predicted that the new access road will carry 21,500 vehicles a day between Hauxton Road and Shelford Road in 2023 when all the developments in the area are completed.

On these pages you can find out more about the design of the new road and the route it will follow.
