In the historic centre pedestrian zone (shown in plan 5 (PDF 718kb) motor vehicles are generally not permitted access between 10am - 4pm, Monday to Saturday. An exception is made for pedestrian zone permit holders.
Can blue badge holders apply for 10am - 4pm access?
Any blue badge holder in receipt of a mobility allowance, the higher rate of the Disability Living Allowance or a war Pension Mobility supplement can apply for a pedestrian zone permit. The permit allows parking in the zone between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
What happens at other times?
To allow for deliveries to be made and for other essential access, vehicles can enter and park to load and unload before 10am and after 4pm Monday to Saturday and all days on Sundays. Parking by blue-badge holders for up to 3 hours is also permitted at these times, as long as vehicles do not cause an obstruction.
How do I apply for a pedestrian zone permit?
To apply you will need a blue badge, an allowance as described above, a completed application form and two passport sized photographs of the badge holder.
If you are not in receipt of any of the allowances described above, or you don't live locally and don't visit that often it may still be possible for you to obtain a permit but you will need to contact us to find out.
