From 17 August, some Emmanuel Street bus services will be given a temporary new home while Cambridgeshire Highways improve bus services and make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to access the city centre. Contractors will be working on Sundays, the Bank Holiday and overnight to resurface Emmanuel Street and build a central traffic island at the St Andrew’s Street end of the road.

Bus services affected are Park and Ride Madingley Road and Park and Ride Newmarket Road, City Sightseeing, and Citiservices 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The new stops can be viewed using the link on the left and there will also be posters on affected services and at relevant bus stops showing the temporary stops.

To complete the work as quickly and safely as possible it will be carried out on Sundays, the August bank holiday and overnight to disrupt fewer bus services. It is hoped that the work will be completed in over two weekends.

The closures are planned for:

· From 6am Sunday 17th August through to 6am on Monday 18th August.
· From 6am Sunday 24th August through to 6am on Tuesday 26th August (Bank Holiday).
· A further closure may be necessary from 6am to 6pm on Sunday 31st August.

The closure of Emmanuel Street will also affect the route of drivers requiring access to St.Andrew’s Street, Hobson Street and part of Sidney Street. Drivers will need to access these roads from Regent Street where the rising bollard will be lowered during the closures. The traffic regulation order that restricts the city-bound use of St. Andrew’s Street beyond the rising bollard will also be suspended for the duration of the road closures to allow drivers to use the bus lane during these times.
