A road closure was necessary on Riverside between the entrance to St Bartholomew’s Court and the Museum of Technology throughout the works for the safety of both the public and the workforce.

Now that the bridge is open, there is going to be a substantial increase in the number of pedestrians and cyclists using the Riverside area. As well as this, the new approach ramp for the bridge on Riverside means that a section of road has been reduced in width.
After extensive public consultation with the local community a committee of County and City Councillors voted in January 2008 to keep the closure of Riverside to motor vehicles a permanent feature.
