Small lengths of new kerbing may be authorized by the Network Manager and may be provided in exceptional circumstances to:
- protect pedestrians
- assist with drainage
- support the edge of the carriageway
Urgent repairs to defective kerbs should be undertaken for safety reasons only.
New kerbs should be of the half battered or bullnose type and shall have 115mm upstand in urban areas and 125mm upstand in rural areas. Dropped kerbs should be provided for access and for the use of prams and wheelchairs at all junctions.
