Trees on the highway

Requests or representations in relation to trees are dealt with by the Countywide Tree Team. Felling of trees or pruning works are carried out only where necessary to ensure the health and safety of road users or pedestrians.

No works will be undertaken in response to complaints about minor nuisances such as leaf fall, loss of light, dripping sap or interference with television or satellite signals.

Decisions relating to requests for works will be communicated to the person who made the request.

No works will be undertaken in response to representations concerning highway trees overhanging third party property. In such circumstances, the third party may exercise their common law rights to prune the tree up to the point that it overhangs their boundary. They should in all such cases check with their District Council that the tree(s) are not subject to statutory protection such as a Tree Preservation Order or are within a Conservation Area.

To report a problem with trees on or related to the highway, please use the highway defects form.

If the defect constitutes a danger and requires urgent attention, please use the number provided.
