The County Council's standards are:
- Urban areas - cut four times during April to September.
- Rural areas - bends and visibility splays and a single swathe (approximately 4ft or 1.2m wide) are cut twice each year, in April/May and June/July. The full width of highway verge is cut once a year at the end of the growing season.
An additional visibility cut may be authorised during the summer if exceptional growth makes this essential for safety.
The standards of District and Parish Councils vary, but typically might be expected to be around ten cuts per year.
