County gritting routes

What routes we grit and when

Cambridgeshire County Council treats over 40% of the road network based on the following criteria:

Primary (blue and red) routes

Standard precautionary routes that are treated when freezing weather is forecasted.

  • All A & B Roads

  • Links to A&E hospitals and other emergency services

  • Strategic locations as defined by Go East Roads

  • Roads adjacent to major fen drains

  • Routes where scheduled buses are timetabled on a frequency of 5 times or more per week.

  • Distributor roads to industrial estates.

In the event of emergency, scheduled bus and industrial estate distributor (blue) routes will be given a lower priority to ensure the most vital routes are treated.

Secondary (green) routes

Additional routes which are treated when freezing weather is forecasted for 5 consecutive days.

  • Routes where scheduled buses are timetabled on a frequency of less than 5 times a week
  • Links to small hamlets

You can view separate town routes below.

The Highways Agency is responsible for gritting the following roads
