Welcome to Safer Routes to School

Our Aims

Safer Routes to school aims to:

"create a safe, healthy environment so that children and young people can travel to and from school using sustainable forms of transport such as cycling and walking, thereby increasing their independence, health and fitness."

The Vicious Circle

The current travel situation is like a 'vicious circle':

  • Parents/Carers drive their children to school
  • Road traffic increases
  • Fewer children walk and cycle to school
  • Parents/Carers feel that roads are too dangerous.

As a result of this vicious circle, less children walk or cycle, more people journey by car.

Safer Routes aims to work with schools to break this cycle.

Utilising funds from central and local government, all schools in Cambridgeshire will be given the opportunity to participate.

Schools benefits include:

  • Healthier pupils and staff
  • Reduced congestion around the school
  • Improved roadcraft and awareness in children
  • Safer Routes for the whole community
  • Positive image for the school

If your school would like to apply to join the project simply click the links on the right or give us a call.
