Safer Routes to School facts
Did you know the following about the Safer Routes To School (SRTS) team?
- Since 2004, SRTS has provided cycle storage for over 1,500 bikes
- 100% of Cambridgeshire's Local Authority schools have a School Travel Plan (STP). Cambridgeshire schools have received over £1.3 million as part of a grant given as an incentive to write the Plan. This grant can be spent on measures to encourage sustainable travel to school.
- Nationally, 25.9% of pupils were transported to school by car in 2011. Cambridgeshire is bucking this national trend with 20.6% of children being driven to school.
- Since 2006, SRTS has been exceeding its target to reduce the percentage of children travelling to school by car.
- The school crossing patrol service crosses approximately over 1 million children each year. This does not include parents and other pedestrian groups such as the elderly, infirm or those with disabilities. In 2001 the "Road Traffic Act" was amended and patrols can now legally stop traffic to cross any individual.
