Mode of Travel to School Data

Over recent years, schools have been submitting information to Government on the way pupils travel to school as part of the annual school census.  In 2008 Cambridgeshire County Council set targets as part of the Local Transport Plan for the reduction of car use on the journey to school.  Targets have recently been extended to cover the coming 5 years (from 2012 onwards).

The following table shows the great results that schools in Cambridgeshire have been achieving over recent years:

Percentage of children travelling to school by car (calculated by recording car/van & taxi use on the journey to school)

Year Target Actual
2008 Non set 23.16%
2009 23.45% 22.14%
2010 22.50% 21.04%
2011 21.40% 20.08%
2012 20.90%

(targets for 2009 - 2012 were set prior to the actual figures in 2008 being known)
