Accessibility planning focuses on promoting social inclusion by tackling accessibility problems. There are 5 stages in accessibility planning:
1. A strategic accessibility assessment of the county
2. Local accessibility assessments
3. Appraisal options to address these priorities
4. The development of joint accessibility action plans
5. The monitoring and evaluation of the action plans
Strategic and local accessibility assessments have been undertaken which identified the least accessible wards in the county. The Countywide Accessibility Strategy Group then prioritised nine wards to develop Accessibility Action Plans. These action plans are being produced with the District Councils and other key stakeholders. The nine priority areas are:
Parson Drove & Wisbech St Mary
Manea
Isleham
Fordham Villages
Balsham
Somersham
Kimbolton & Staughton
Ellington
Elton & Folksworth
In addition to the geographical areas identified, the Countywide Accessibility Strategy Group also identified three groups of people with poorer access to services:
Young people
Elderly people
Lone parent families
The Accessibility Action Plans will focus on improving access to key services for these groups of people.
Wisbech St Mary/Parson Drove/Manea have already produced a combined Accessibility Action Plan which can be viewed at the end of the Accessibility Strategy.
