Working with partners has been a key part of the County Council's success.
In a national climate where patronage levels are decreasing or remaining constant, the County has achieved an increase in bus patronage nearly ten times higher than the national average.
The Council beat tough Government targets to increase passenger numbers into and out of Cambridge by 20 per cent in less than four years.
Countywide there were more than one million extra passenger journeys last year compared with 2001/2002.
Many of the Council's successes can be related to close working with partner agencies such as city, district, and parish councils, the NHS and bus operators.
Below are presentations used in our first Beacon open day on 20 October 2005 which addressed the issues of working in partnership.
1. Relationships with operators
Successful partnerships with operators has been a key part of increasing patronage in Cambridge.
2. The Addenbrooke's Experience
Addenbrooke's Hospital has worked with other partners in the City to encourage both staff and patients to use public transport.
3. Park and Ride
The award winning Park and Ride service in conjunction with restircting car use in the City Centre has resulted in the County Council beating tough government targets to increase bus travel into Cambridge by 20% in four years.
4. Citi 4
A partnership between Stagecoach, Cambridge University and the County Council has resulted in a very popular bus service.
