Funding bids

These pages provide further information on bids which Cambridgeshire County Council has submitted in order to access funding for transport improvements in Cambridgeshire.

In February 2012 Cambridgeshire County Council submitted a bid to the Department for Transport's Better Bus Area Fund for approximately £1.7 million, to increase bus use by reducing congestion and making bus journey times more reliable.

In February 2012, the County Council also submitted a bid to the Department for Transport's Local Sustainable Transport Fund for approximately £5 million to support sustainable travel.

In 2007 Cambridgeshire County Council bid to the Department for Transport's Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) for approximately £500 million to support large-scale improvements to public transport, highways, walking and cycling facilities and the introduction of demand management measures, notably congestion charging.  However in 2010 the Government announced the withdrawal of this fund, so the County Council's bid became inactive.

The 2007 bid followed on from a successful bid in 2005 for money from the TIF, which resulted in the County Council being awarded around £1.4 million for a study into which transport measures would best encourage modal shift.  The evidence from this study was used in developing the 2007 bid as well as other strategies and plans.
