In October 2007 Cambridgeshire County Council submitted a bid to the Government worth £500 million for a package of transport improvements to tackle congestion in the Cambridge area.
The package, which includes proposals for a congestion charge and substantial improvements to public transport, is essential for the continued success and prosperity of the county, given the tens of thousands of new homes being built in the area.

In December 2008, Sir Brian Briscoe was announced as the chair of the independent Cambridgeshire Transport Commission. This has been set up to look at our proposals for tackling congestion and to assess if there are any other ways we could tackle the transport problems that we have in Cambridge.
On 27th January 2009 the Transport Commission launched its own website which can be viewed using the link on the right.
