The Busway update - Wednesday 7 July
At the end of April this year BAM Nuttall set a timetable for addressing the final six jobs they need to carry out before the route from St Ives to Cambridge can open. However, the contractor has not hit the dates they set for the jobs and at a Cabinet meeting on Monday 5 July councillors took the decision not to spend anymore time or money chasing the contractor given their continued failure to rectify the notified defects.
At the meeting councillors agreed to:
- Request that officers now focus their principle efforts on the completion of the whole contract, rather than the interim stage of sectional completion, given the continued failure of BAM Nuttall to recify the notified defects, and;
- To continue to leave the option open for a sectional completion agreement and handover of the scheme should BAM Nuttall rectify the notified defects to the Council's satisfaction.
BAM Nuttall's construction programme shows the southern link will be complete in December 2010 and once they finish the work on the southern section they will have one month to rectify all notified defects on the project. Following that period the Council will be able to step in and carry out the necessary work, if BAM Nuttall has not done so. The cost of the works will be charged to BAM Nuttall.
